Passat CC, Volkswagen's Only Best Selling Model

Certainly no one expected that automakers would score impressive results this year in the land where the financial crisis initially started and therefore, some of them seem content with their February sales in US even if they represent a drop when compared to the same month last year.

Volkswagen of America seems to feel encouraged by the 13,660 units which found a new home in the United States last month, even though this means a 17.5 percent decrease compared February 2008 sales of 16,556 units.

The star car of the month was undoubtedly the new Volkswagen Passat CC which had its best month ever, with more than 1,800 units that finding a new owner.

"The economy continues to be difficult for the Automotive Industry," said Mark Barnes, Chief Operating Officer, Volkswagen of America, Inc. "Despite the extremely difficult on-going economic conditions, the Volkswagen Brand has been growing market share in the U.S. Our stylish new CC, one of our five all-new models, is helping us gain share with strong sales achieving its best sales month ever in February," added Barnes.

What's more, the model that scored the poorest results was the Volkswagen R32, with 85 units sold last month versus 449 in February 2008, meaning a 81.1 percent drop. The R32 is followed at poor sales by Volkswagen Passat sedan, with 761 units sold compared to 2,832 units sold in February last year. The figures represent an alarming 73,1 percent drop for the model. The last model from top 3 poorest sales is the Volkswagen Rabbit, with 666 new vehicles which found a new home, compared to 1,824 in February last year, meaning a 63.5 percent decrease.

The increased demand for the Passat CC is surely a pleasant surprise for Volkswagen, but judging by the alarming figures of other models, the German car maker doesn't yet have reasons to say that the difficult period is over.
