Passat BlueMotion 2 Heading to Dealers

Volkswagen today announced that Passat BlueMotion 2, a new model which now includes a new stop/start technology, is heading to UK dealerships, with orders available starting this week. The upgraded Passat BlueMotion is powered by a new 2.0-liter TDI engine developing 110 PS, in comparison with the previous version which had a 1.9-liter TDI 105 PS.

However, the new Passat's main attribute is actually the fuel economy which, according to the German manufacturer, rises from 55.4 mpg (55.3 mpg for the estate) to 57.6 mpg for the saloon and estate models. More importantly, the emissions were also reduced from 136 g/km (137 g/km for the estate) down to 128 g/km and 129 g/km respectively.

Volkswagen's stop/start system is entirely based on the clutch as it is automatically enabled and disabled once the driver presses the pedal. For instance, if the driver depresses the clutch and selects neutral position, the engine automatically enters idle mode, with a stop/start symbol activated on the dashboard. Once the driver presses the clutch to select first gear, the system re-starts the engine in less than 0.5 seconds, so no lag should be actually experienced by the driver.

Apart from the fuel-saving features, Volkswagen continues to offer several top features, including ABS, ESP, cruise control, air conditioning, six airbags, alloy wheels and low rolling-resistance tires, all of them available as standard.

And because price is very important, you should probably know that the sedan variant of the new Passat BlueMotion 2 will cost 17,700 pounds, with the estate version priced at 18,835 pounds (the new models are approximately 500 pounds more expensive than the basic Passat).
