On Saturday, after the first race of the final weekend held on the Hockenheim circuit, Pascal Wehrlein became the 2015 champion with one race to go. The 20-year-old gooix/Original-Teile Mercedes-AMG team driver finished eighth in his first ever race on Hockenheim, but that was enough to give him the title ahead of Sunday’s final stage.

Pascal has thus become the youngest DTM champion in the history of this competition, just one day ahead of his 21st anniversary.

The final race of the season also brought the confirmation of gooix/Original-Teile Mercedes-AMG team’s triumph in the DTM team championship. The best overall manufacturer, the third title available in every DTM season, went BMW’s way in 2015.

This is what the new champion had to say after the first race of the weekend: “You can't be too pleased until you're sure of the result. It's all over very quickly especially in the DTM, but all the pressure fell away from me from after crossing the finish line. It's just mega. Thanks to the whole team for their superb work this season. I had a fast car today and was able to prove it as well towards the end of the race.”

And this is his reaction after the final race: “The race didn’t go quite as well as I would have liked. But fortunately, it didn’t have any effect on the outcome of the championship. Right up to the end, I was trying to push and get nearer the front. But it was impossible because my car was too severely damaged. I’d like to thank my team once again for all their excellent work during the year. After winning the drivers’ title yesterday, taking the team championship today is the icing on the cake. Thanks a lot, guys!”

But the real end of this great season for the Mercedes-AMG DTM teams will come on December 12, when the pilots and their cars will be celebrating together with the fans on the Mercedes-Benz Arena in Stuttgart. Consider the video below a short preview of things to come.
