Renaultsport are the masters of fast hatchbacks, so we’ll have to trust them if they say this is the right formula for the Clio RS in going forward. However, it’s going to be a big leap of faith.
First off, the only supermini with a 2-liter engine has been made a lot more mainstream, as the power for the RS now comes from a 1.6-liter turbo engine. It has variable valve timing, the same 200 horsepower as before and 240 Nm of torque, which is 25 Nm more.

All this, plus a standard EDC means the new Clio RS “will use two liters/100km less fuel for an equivalent power output,” making it a much better everyday proposition.

The Clio RS will come in two flavors. First, there’s the normal Sport version, which is "an optimum balance of sportiness and comfort in everyday motoring", and then there’s the Cup, which is 15% stiffer and 5 mm lower for that extra driving pleasure.

Expect a slight increase in price to be carried by the new Clio RS when it arrives early next year.
