Supercars are a dime a dousing these days, but hypercars are a much rarer breed. They are no-holds machines built using the best technology that money can buy, getting you as close as possible to that F1 car you watch on TV.
The latest one comes from McLaren, who have shown the P1 hypercar concept at the Paris Motor Show today. It’s a styling exercise without rival, a machine who’s design we can’t fathom.
"The McLaren P1 will be the result of 50 years of racing and road car heritage", says McLaren Automotive Executive Chairman Ron Dennis. "Twenty years ago we raised the supercar performance bar with the McLaren F1 and our goal with the McLaren P1 is to redefine it once again."
The production version which is coming late next year promises to offer at least 600 p per ton, but speed wasn’t their biggest focus. It’s more of an exercise in aerodynamics, featuring an F1-like Drag Reduction System (DRS), which adjusts to reduce drag in a straight line.
The P1 is meant as a celebration of McLaren’s 50th anniversary. Details will be announced early next year, with deliveries coming towards the end.
