So you thought that Pagani Automobili can’t be touched by a measly recall? Ha! As fate would have it, the Italian hypercar-making company has been hit by a safety recall in the United States of America. And the model which has to pay a visit to the service department is the awe-inspiring Huayra.
The summary of the operation, as published on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s website, won’t come as a surprise to you. As it happens, the Pagani Huayra is hampered down by a problem with the driver side frontal airbag. Don’t worry, though, this isn’t the type of problem that turned the Takara Corporation from hero to zero.

In the Huayra, the airbag “may not remain adequately secured to the steering wheel during deployment, and therefore the airbag may deploy improperly.” In the event of a crash, improper deployment means that the airbag will do more harm to the driver than offer protection. Happily, however, Pagani Automobili and the NHTSA are not aware of any defective deployments.

Affected models come in the form of MY 2014 to MY 2016 vehicles, made by Pagani between April 21, 2014, to July 29, 2016. What Huayra owners have to do next is to drive their beloved hypercars to the dealers, let the mechanic change the fasteners on the steering wheel airbag assembly, and that’s about it. Of course, owners won’t be charged a dime for the fix.

Speaking of cheap thrills, the Pagani Huayra isn’t the only hypercar that’s been affected by a recall. Porsche, for example, had recalled the 918 Spyder for no less than four times. The Ferrari LaFerrari, on the other hand, was called in to change the airbag, the headrests, and the fuel tank. Even British automaker McLaren had to recall the P1 over a faulty backup hood latch.

So yeah, all cars are equal - econoboxes and hypercars alike - when it comes down to recalls.
