Owner Drives Honda Accord to Nearly One Million Miles

It’s not just the need to change your vehicle, but also the poor maintenance of the car itself that stops most people from reaching such a feat, but that’s not the case with Joe of Norway, Maine. Typical drivers clock about 14,000 miles per year, but the Honda Accord owner manages the same in just about three months.

Joe owns a 1990 Accord that is closely approaching to the 1 million miles mark in about 15 years. The milestone is expected to be reached sometime this fall, and the Accord seems to be up for that.

The Accord owner has reportedly read and followed his owner's manual and maintenance schedule to the letter. Joe made sure he uses only Honda air, oil and fuel filters. He never rides heavy on the brakes, and changes the fluid every few years. He's also replaced the fuel pump, both cooling fans and the radiator twice.

Honda thus decided to tell Joe’s story and has enabled the brand’s fans to follow his journey on the company’s Facebook page.

Joe drives an average of 62,500 miles a year and began keeping detailed records at around 300,000 miles. He has taken more than 661 photos of his odometer and his dedication to his Accord is known throughout the small town in Maine were he resides.

“Joe's journey is a testament to his Honda's reliability and how people have come to count on Honda for more than 50 years to get them to where they need to go," said Tom Peyton, Honda brand manager for American Honda Motor Co., Inc.
