Outboard Mirrors Ban Will Affect Red Bull's Performance

Sebastian Vettel insisted that he is not at all concerned with his car's reliability ahead of the upcoming race in Malaysia. Having experienced an engine problem in Bahrain and a wheel mounting issue in Australia – both depriving him of a couple of easy wins – the German is confident that his team will get into winning form at Sepang.

We don't have one big problem in the car. But sometimes one small thing breaks and then it leads to five other things to break, which then can have a big impact on your result. I think the cars are built on the limit. We didn't have a single problem similar to what happened in Bahrain or Melbourne during testing. S*it happens, so we carry on,” said Vettel, ahead of this weekend's Malaysian GP.

Additionally, he insisted that his team is now more concerned with the drop in performance caused by the outboard mirrors ban, as Red Bull had installed some drastic aerodynamic design for their mirrors this year. Following several concerns issued by the drivers regarding low visibility, the teams were asked to scrap the outboard design for their 2010 mirrors.

We are much more concerned that from the next race we'll all have to run the mirrors inboard and our car is losing quite some performance due to that, but reliability, no problems,” added the German driver.

Red Bull Racing are not the only ones who have implemented outboard mirrors to their 2010 single-seaters, as Ferrari are also in the same boat with the Milton-Keynes based team.

This is the second time the FIA is asking the teams to scrap a design of a certain part of their car, after the season has already started. Prior to the Aussie race, McLaren, Mercedes, Renault and Force India were asked to alter their rear diffuser, while these new mirror changes will affect Red Bull and Ferrari.
