Outback Diesel Goes to Australia

The world’s first flat boxer diesel engine for a passenger car just got to Australia in the Subaru Outback 2.0D on the new generation platform. Like all Subaru cars, the diesel Outback has a Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive and meets the Euro 5 standards. The engine consumes just 6.4 liters per 100 kilometers in the combined cycle, while producing 160 grams per kilometer of carbon dioxide.

The new 2.0D engine produces 150 hp of power at 3,600 rpm and 350 Nm of torque between 1,800-2,400 rpm. Even at just 1,600 rpm, the engine delivers 300 Nm. The 2.0D Outback needs the first service at 12,500 kilometers or after a six months period. While cruising at a steady freeway speed, the Outback is capable of a 1,100 kilometers range.

There are three models available: Outback 2.0D, 2.0D Premium and 2.0D Premium with satellite navigation. The first model is priced at AU$40,490, while the top model Outback Premium with SatNav is AU$46,490.

These are the most fuel efficient new generation Subarus on the Australian market,” said Nick Senior, Managing Director, Subaru Australia. “We’ve already had huge interest from people seeking a luxurious drive with the outstanding economic benefits of this diesel engine."

"Outback 2.0D reinforces our environmental and fuel economy credentials, which have already been highlighted by significant efficiency gains across the entire new generation Liberty and Outback ranges. We estimate that driving 25,000 kilometres a year at $90 per tank of diesel would save approximately $2500 over 20 months on an equivalent petrol car
