Out of Nothing Bonneville Salt Flats Documentary Premieres in May

Almost one year ago I wrote this small piece on the daring movie project called “Out of Nothing”, a documentary about a team of enthusiast motorcyclists who dreamed of the Bonneville Salt Flats glory. Well, the movie got funded and it will premiere on May 17 at the Mount Baker Theatre in Bellingham, Whatcom County, Washington.
Three of the 4 key characters in “Out of Nothing” are county residents, while the music and lyrics have also been written by local artists. The whole project got massive support from comedian Ryan Stiles, who lives near Bellingham and whose Kickstarter campaign helped raise over $53,000 (€38,400) to cover for the crew’s trip to Bonneville, Utah and shoot additional video material.

“Out of Nothing” tells the story of brothers Mark and Carl Bjorklund of Bellingham, aided by Jason Omer of Ferndale and Bill Woods of Shoreline, and their efforts to race on the Salt Flats in Bonneville. Omer, who had been to the Speed Trials, urged the Bjorklund brothers to go and race there too.

Together they asked Chad DeRosa to join them and record as much as he possibly could. Back form the BUB Speed Trials in 2011 with a lot of footage but no scrip or money, the guys asked for the help of another Bellingham guy, Andrew Lahmann, who had a degree in film studies and prior experience with the first Iron Man movie.

The result is way better than everyone expected, and this second trailer of the documentary shows how cool the May 17 premiere will be. Enjoy!
