More than 60 years ago, GM presented the first Corvette, a car that was to forever change the way the world perceived American sports cars. And although the nameplate is now in its eighth generation, the C1 still remains one of the pillars of the family.
Throughout the years, the C1 was repeatedly honored by a great number of custom builds, all trying to bring a modern twist to the sleek lines that made the car famous.

Back in 2017, a garage by the name Larry Griffey’s Hot Rods and Restorations from Knoxville, Tennessee, presented in Detroit a reinterpretation of the original C1. The result of six years of hard work, the car is going under the hammer at the Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Called Transitions, the build uses a stock 1954 Corvette body mounted on a Jamison tubular chassis. As the builders say, “every inch of this car has been reworked from top to bottom,” so that it blends the great looks of the car with modern-day tech.

That means the body of this particular Corvette is not exactly as it was when it rolled off the assembly lines. A number of changes were needed to make it wider, extend the rear wheel wells, or modify the cowl so that a windshield from 1956 could be fitted.

What more, the rear hatch was altered too, as there the tuner installed a 1956 removable top, and a hidden steel structure was created to ensure the safety of the people riding inside.

The car uses a 5.7-liter V8 LS1 engine, supercharged by an Edelbrock hardware, and mated to a 4-speed automatic transmission.

This particular build is meant to honor one of the three Dream Car Corvettes presented by Chevrolet at the 1954 GM Motorama, the Convertible Coupe (the other two were the Nomad and Corvair). And fans now have a chance to get their hands on it, as the Transitions sells with no reserve at the Arizona auction.
