Original 1962 Ford Thunderbird Emerges From Storage After 22 Years

1962 was quite a big year for Ford's Thunderbird, as it witnessed the introduction of the Sports Roadster and the Landau models. The production of the Thunderbird reached new highs, with the American carmaker building over 78,000 units in an attempt to meet the growing demand.

Out of them, close to 9,900 were convertibles, and one of those is right here at a click's distance.

This 1962 Ford Thunderbird, which is described by the owner as a barn find (though no additional information in this regard is provided), has spent over two decades in storage. That’s right, while that might be pretty hard to figure out judging from how great it looks, the Thunderbird was parked for over 22 years and only started occasionally. Or at least, that’s what the seller claims, explaining the car still runs and drives nicely after all these days.

A “dealer-made Sport Roadster,” the Thunderbird comes with zero rust, and we all know how important this is, especially if what the buyer is interested in is a full restoration. The Kelsey-Hayes designed wire wheels are still there, and the chrome parts look in good condition too.

Despite being listed as an all-original and unmolested Thunderbird, the seller says the convertible top has already been rebuilt. The car has also received a few fixes here and there, such as a new pump, and requires several more, especially in the trunk.

The Thunderbird comes with some original goodies, too, including the owner’s manual, the workshop manual, and the convertible top manual.

Overall, this isn’t necessarily a collector’s dream, but it could be with the right fixes, especially as a Thunderbird in tip-top shape can end up costing a small fortune. The odometer indicates close to 73,000 miles (117,500 km), and the car comes with a clean title.

As for the price, this is up to the Internet to decide, as the car was listed on eBay by seller shelbob. The top bid at the time of writing is a little over $1,500, but the reserve is yet to be met.
