French importer DIP expands operations with a new bike adding to the existing Daelim, Keeway, Royal Enfield, Benelli and SWM line-up, but this time it's all about authentic retro style. The Orcal Astor 125 is a classic-looks bike for both new riders and seasoned ones who want to feel once more like they're back in their 20's.
Small, simple and fashionable, the Orcal Astor 125 is said to be a successful departure from the classic recipe that involved a Chinese bike with some cosmetic makeovers to make it more palatable in Europe.
French testers say that the bike was designed and engineered in France, and is only assembled in China. Even so, it looks like the Orcal Astor 125 also employs very good materials that make it a bike that's rather slotting at the top of the list despite its diminutive displacement.
It is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox and a chain final drive. Both wheels are 17" with wire spokes, and suspensions employ a classic 37mm telescopic fork with gaiters and dual coil over spring rear shocks. Braking power comes from a 300mm front rotor and a 210mm rear one.
The one-piece two-up saddle sits 780mm (30.7") from the ground, and the 16-liter (4.2 US gal) fuel tank should provide a very good range for this carbureted retro jewel. The photos seem to show a good craftsmanship quality, too.
Now, for €2,230 ($2,420 price in France) the Orcal Astor 125 is a very neat first bike and can also be a stylish commuter, as well. The Orcal Astor 125 is already available for purchase since July 18th.

An eighth-liter Yamaha engine does the trick
Though branded as Orcal, the engine is built by Yamaha. We're looking at a 124cc air-cooled single-cylinder mill, with a simple construction involving a single OHC and two valves. Revved to 8,000 rpm, the engine will produce 9.5 hp, with a peak torque of 9.5Nm (7 lb-ft) at 6,500 revs. Both kick and electric start are available.It is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox and a chain final drive.
