If there’s one thing electric two-wheelers have in common then that’s the high price they sell for. Whether we’re talking about electric motorcycles, electric bikes, or anything in between, the development costs and hardware fitted on them makes these vehicles not exactly cheap.
Take Cake, for instance. The visually-exciting builds the Swedes are making usually sell somewhere in the $10,000 range, a price that seems to be a reference point for many other companies in this industry. The segment Cake plays in is beginning to take off, so probably that price is justified.

But there are other means of two-wheeled electric propulsion out there that can prove equally as exciting as the said Cakes, and cheaper to get.

Back in January, an Orange County-based company by the name Super73 announced the launch of the R Series of pedal-powered motorbikes made of two models – the R and RX. And at under $3,000 for each, the American proposition is hard to ignore.

Both bikes are powered by an internally geared brushless DC hub motor that cranks out 2,000 watts of power. The motor is backed by a 960 Wh battery, allegedly the largest one in its segment, that can hold enough electricity for a range of 40 miles at 20 mph (64 km at 32 kph). When using the ECO pedal assist mode, the range increases to 75 miles (120 km).

This week, Super73 announced it will soon start shipping the bikes to those who have pre-ordered them.

“Delivery of the SUPER73 R Series and the upcoming S2 represents a monumental and significant milestone for our young company,” said in a statement Aaron P. Wong, Chief Brand Officer for SUPER73.

“The development of these new vehicles was only made possible by the overwhelming support of our incredible global community, and our dedicated team members who work passionately and tirelessly to advance the SUPER73 goal of fusing motorcycle heritage with modern youth culture."
