Opus, the $100M Beverly Hills Mansion With Gold Lamborghini and Rolls-Royce

You know you’re filthy rich when you can’t even be bothered to go shopping for a supercar. The latest in high-end real estate is to up the ante on ultra-luxury properties by including one or even more select cars in the price of the house.

As far as luxury real estate goes, few others can match Opus. Designed by architect Paul McClean and offered by developer Nile Niami, this 1175 N Hillcrest Rd, Beverly Hills property was once the most expensive in Beverly Hills. Situated in the cul-de-sac known as Billionaire’s Row, Opus was listed in 2017 for $100 million and sold at the end of 2019 for an unknown amount.

Whoever bought it got more than just a house and the select company of like-minded millionaires. At the time of the listing, Opus came with a 10-car garage, including a gold-plated Lamborghini Aventador Roadster and a similarly gold-plated Rolls-Royce Dawn.

Offering customized or very rare cars in the price of a piece of real estate is the latest trend in high-end luxury. Apparently, customers want a “cherry on top” to sweeten the deal, as well as the guarantee that they won’t have to go out shopping for a new car, now that they’ve moved into a different neighborhood.

Niami was well ahead of the curve when he built a car museum into Opus, back in 2017. During the time it was on the market with Hilton & Hyland and saw various price drops, the cars in the car museum were removed from the property, but they were added again once the price went up. We can only assume they were eventually part of the deal, as the gold wrap on those two matched the style of the mansion perfectly.

Opus is decadence at its most stylish. The 20,000-square-foot mansion is best described as a contemporary trophy that combines large expanses of glass, soaring ceilings and the most luxurious amenities to create an ultra-glam space that offers openness and privacy at the same time. Indeed, a stocked 10-car garage is only the cherry on the cake.

Opus comes with two wine cellars (one is actually a 170-bottle Cristal champagne vault) and one wine station, where you get the glass filled with the exact amount and at the perfect temperature. There’s a generous dining room that can comfortably seat at least 12 guests, two stunning pools, a waterfall, a 15-seat curved screen theater, seven bedrooms (including a VIP suite and a master bedroom) and 11 bathrooms. One gourmet show kitchen and a separate cooking / catering kitchen are available.

In designing it, McClean took the concept of open-space to new extremes, including retractable glass panels and floor-to-ceiling windows that offer breathtaking views of Los Angeles, from nearly every perspective. At the same time, you get privacy, thanks to secured private entrance and state-of-the-art Savant home automation and security.

Because no mansion is complete without one, Opus has a wellness center that features hot and cold plunges, full-service beauty salon with hair styling facilities, and a steam massage room. You really can’t downplay the importance of de-stressing when you’re a billionaire living in a mansion like this.

The interior is furnished in soft, muted colors that come into contrast with the glossy ceilings and the incredible amount of glass. Fireplaces and art pieces, luxury appliances, Loghi doors and Roberto Cavalli flooring add to the exclusiveness of this property.

“I am always trying to push the bar with each new house that’s created,” Niami said at the time Opus was listed for the first time. “I love seeing the final product from paper to completion and see the buyers’ sheer delight when they walk through my homes – and start dreaming of owning it. That’s the best part of my job.”

Back in 2017, Opus was marketed as a “sexy” mansion (apparently, there is such a thing), through a Hollywood-like commercial that played like part Eyes Wide Shut part Fifty Shades of Grey. The idea was to show a woman’s empowerment through Opus, but the result was a red-band trailer for a piece of real estate that, to many, made little sense. What’s worse, it also stole the thunder from the beauty of the place.

Initially listed for $100 million, Opus was then reduced to $85 million and then to $68 million. In September 2019, the price went up to $80 million, and the mansion went off the market shortly afterwards.
