He was born with poor eyesight and became blind at the age of 12 following a football accident, but Andrea Bocelli managed to overcome his problem and become one of the best-selling music artists ever. Like any other great talent out there, there are some things he simply can’t resist. For the 56-year old Italian one thing is a sublime as music, the sea.
He sold over 100 million records worldwide, recorded fourteen solo studio albums, three greatest hits albums, and nine complete operas. He has had success as a crossover performer bringing classical music to the top of international pop charts. His 1997 pop album Romanza became the best-selling album by an Italian artist of any genre in history, as well as the best-selling album by a foreign artist in Canada.

He has three children and is currently living with his second wife, but as opposed to a lot of the celebrities worldwide, Bocelli’s greatest passion comes for the breeze of the sea and the unique feeling only sailing gives you. Andrea has owned several motor yachts before and seems to be quite impressed of his newest acquisition.

Built by Dutch yard Vripack, MY Libertas is a 22.1-meter (72-foot) custom trawler model from Gamma Yachts, which the company describes as a “mini superyacht”. The exclusive, custom-built vessel combines Dutch boatbuilding skills with Italian flair and was created respecting Bocelli’s requirements. “I love the way space has been arranged so that our large extended family can be together, enjoying closeness and intimacy, while at the same time respecting everybody’s privacy,” the opera star said in a statement.

It's able to travel for 1,461 miles on one tank

According to Vripack, Andrea Bocelli’s motor yacht is designed for long-distance cruising, comes with living space to accommodate six guests and a crew of two. Among its features, a flybridge diving boar and a hydraulic swim platform at the stern are included. It would seem the opera icon is planning to continue making music right on spot, as the vessel also with an on-board piano and recording studio.

The motor yacht is powered by a Yanmar 6SY set-up that produces 1,300 horsepower and pushes the entire vessel with up to 16 knots. While cruising with 14 knots, MY Libertas is able to keep going for 1,270 nm (1,461 miles / 2,352 km) with only one tank.

We appreciate Andrea Bocelli's discretion, especially that it would seem we live in a world where rich and famous people usually prefer opulence (read: golden painted vessels).
