Open-Source Software Enables All iPhone Apps on CarPlay With a Catch

This jailbreak tweak enables CarPlay support for all apps 1 photo

Just like Android Auto, CarPlay only allows compatible apps to run in the car for obvious reasons. One of them is the high level of distraction certain apps, such as Netflix, can produce, as drivers would be tempted to look at the screen instead of focusing on the road.
On the other hand, several ways to bring all apps to the CarPlay experience have already been found before, and one of the most popular for iPhone users with jailbroken devices was CarBridge.

However, it’s not a secret the latest versions of CarBridge haven’t necessarily been received with much enthusiasm by the community out there, so everybody expected someone to come up with a similar tweak that just gets the job done and nothing more.

One such project was announced back in November when developer Ethan Arbuckle revealed on Twitter he was working on a jailbreak tweak to enable CarPlay for all apps. And this week, this highly anticipated app finally went live on GitHub. And what’s more, it’s completely open-source.

The new jailbreak tweak requires at least iOS 14, the latest major software update released by Apple the last fall. Available for iPhone 6s and newer, iOS 14 is already running on 72 percent of all supported models, according to official data shared by Apple.

This jailbreak tool to enable CarPlay for all apps on the iPhone comes with a rather straightforward approach, and it doesn’t feature any configuration options. So after installing it, nothing shows up on your phone, which means you should just connect the iPhone to the head unit and that’s pretty much all you need to do.

According to some users, Safari, which is the default browser on the iPhone, isn’t yet supported, so it doesn’t show up in the car either. It’s not yet clear if other browsers are supported. Keep in mind, however, that this app only works on jailbroken iPhones.
