Opel Zafira Tourer to Be Shown in Frankfurt

Probably the first automaker in the world to announce the presence on one of its models at the Frankfurt Auto Show in September is Opel, who opened the floodgates to similar announcements today by confirming the world premiere of the Opel Zafira Tourer at the event.

Shown for the first time in concept form back in February, the model will bring to the market what Opel promises to be the most exciting people mover Europe has seen in eons. Featuring an exclusive seating concept, the Flex7 seating system, comfort details stripped off the Insignia and advanced driver assistant systems, the new Zafira Tourer is hoped to become a head turner on the streets of Europe.

When it is launched on the market this fall, the Zafira Tourer will come equipped with three versions of the 2.0 CDTI common-rail turbo diesel engine, the same range used on both the Astra and the Insignia and two 1.4 ECOTEC turbo-charged gasoline units.

The diesel engines have outputs of 110 hp, 130 hp and 165 hp, while the gasoline ones can spit 120 hp and 140 hp. All units can be paired to either a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic transmission.

The novelty for the new Zafira is the fact that, regardless of the type of engine, the model will come fitted with Start/Stop technology. Following the launch of the model with the aforementioned engines, Opel will fit the Zafira with and ecoFLEX engine, as well as with one capable of running on Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and Liquid Petroleum Gas (LPG).
