We are the first to admit we don't know everything about the family van market, but s far as we are concerned, Opel has one of the most powerful models out there.
The Zafira Tourer was already available with a twin-turbo 2-liter diesel producing 195 hp, but now it's also become available with an equally impressive 1.6 SIDI Turob petrol engine.
The unit made its debut on the Cascada convertible last year and is rated at 170 hp and maximum torque of up to 280 Nm – 12% more than its closest competitor in the segment of the 150-180 hp compact monocabs.
We did a quick check across the whole market, and there are only two cars that can match it with petrol power. There's the Volkswagen Touran 1.4 TSI with 170 hp and the Mercedes B 250, which has a bigger 211 hp 2-liter engine.
Prices for the new Zafira Tourer 1.6 SIDI Turbo start at 28,155 euros and 29,450 euros with the six-speed automatic gearbox (RRP in Germany), which isn't bad considering the performance. Despite weighing 1,664 kg, the monocab gets to 100 km/h in 9.6 seconds. Not bad considering you have room for the whole family and 711 liters worth of luggage.
