Opel Zafira Tourer Concept Heads to Geneva

With less than a month to go until the Geneva Auto Show opens its doors for the media and the general public, Opel has confirmed it will bring what it calls “a lounge on wheels” to the stand: the Zafira Tourer Concept.

The concept car will offer a glimpse into the future of Opel’s next-generation Zafira that has already been teased in a series of spyshots in mid-2010. In fact, Opel says the vehicle aims to bring Insignia’s quality and innovative technologies to the monocab segment.

“Opel will also present the vision of what a new generation of its larger monocab, the segment-defining Zafira, could look like. Dubbed a “Lounge On Wheels”, the Zafira Tourer Concept features an airy and bright interior executed in high quality,” a company statement reads.

Exterior features of the Zafira Tourer Concept will put an emphasis on a new, bold face that integrates a dramatic wing shaped headlamp, creating a very dynamic look.

The new concept car will give viewers the chance to see how Opel sees the highest possible cabin flexibility, with a great emphasis on rear passenger seats. The team behind the project says the cabin is also generously glazed to invite light, while inside highlights include a sophisticated lounge-style interior.

“We’ve applied the lounge concept to a motor vehicle,” stated Mark Adams, Vice President Opel/Vauxhall Design. “A lounge is a place you want to escape to and relax, a place where you really want to be. We wanted to offer the same feeling in a monocab and make it the lounge you want to spend time in.”

autoevolution will be attending the 2011 Geneva Motor Show, so stay tuned for some real up close and personal shots of the vehicles, as well as for first-hand details of the motorized contraptions presented at the event.
