Next week's Geneva Auto Show, although lacking the importance last year's event had for German auto maker Opel, will be the venue of choice for the brand to showcase a new concept of the Zafira Tourer.
Built as a precursor of the future production version MPV, the model plans to mix the car maker's proven flexible seating with the space offered by an MPV, and adorn it all with a touch of Insignia quality. At least, this is what Opel promises.
From the design stand point, the Zafira Tourer shocks by borrowing the front end (wing shaped headlamps and twin trapezoid grille intakes) from the soon-to-be launched Ampera plug-in hybrid. All the extra goodies that make the exterior of a car look good today are used in the Zafira: LED daytime running lights, bi-Xenon AFL and fog lamps, glass roof, 20-inch twin-spoke alloy wheels or horizontal aluminum bar with the Opel logo.
The interior of the MPV is fitted, as said, with the seven-seat Flex7 seating concept. The system allows the interior of the Zafira to be converted from a seven people MPV into a four-seater one and anyway in between.
Opel did not release any info surrounding what it will end up placing under the hood of the Zafira Tourer. The auto maker has a wide range of engines to choose from, with most of them likely to get into the future production version of the model. We however are curious to see whether the Ampera-inspired front end hides more than meets the eye.
autoevolution will be attending the 2011 Geneva Motor Show, so stay tuned for some real up close and personal shots of the vehicles, as well as for first-hand details of the motorized contraptions presented at the event.
