Opel Vivaro Life Makes Camper Vans Look Cool In Frankfurt

It’s easy to get lost at a big automotive show such as the IAA 2017, especially when you’re literally surrounded by multi-million dollar hypercars, Italian exotica, and wild concepts. Over at the Opel stand, arguably the most attention-grabbing vehicle is the Vivaro Life, which started life as a van of all things.

Joined by the Grandland X, Insignia GSi, and Insignia Country Tourer, the Vivaro Life displayed in Frankfurt is hard to ignore because of the neon green paint. Beyond the Hulk-inspired paint job, the light commercial vehicle hides plenty of comfort-minded traits tailored for the proverbial camping fan.

Ignoring the wild paint and black-painted alloy wheels, the Vivaro in Life attire features swiveling individual seats for the second row and a rail-mounted seat bench that can be turned into two-person bed. When you and your significant other don’t sleep in the car, the light commercial vehicle sports a neat little table between the second- and third-row seats. Overhead lighting of the ultra-bright LED variety and an auxiliary heating system are also featured.

Compared to workhorse versions of the Vivaro, the Life comes equipped with many bits and bobs as standard. Six-way adjustable front seats, side airbags, air conditioning, Park Assist, there’s a lot to like about this camper van, including two USB ports for the rear occupants and a 220-volt plug for your small-sided refrigerator. Optionally, customers can add a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system dubbed Navi 80 IntelliLink, faux leather wrapping the seats, and a go-faster design package called Irmscher Style Pack.

If the switchgear looks very Renault-ish to you, that’s because the Opel- and Vauxhall-branded Vivaro is a badge-engineered Renault Traffic. Also sold as the Fiat Talento and Nissan NV300, the van is produced in France (Sandouville) and in the United Kingdom (Luton). Scheduled to launch in early 2018, the starting price for the Vivaro Life in Germany is 45,904 euros.
