According to Autcarbe, the 2013 launch of the Calibra coupe will soon be followed by the introduction of the cabrio version, one which would give hardcore Calibra lovers more than one choice to satisfy their needs.
As is the case with the coupe sibling, the cabrio will draw inspiration from the GTC concept presented by Opel at the Geneva Auto Show in 2007. For those who don't know, that concept eventually turned into the Insignia (or Buick Regal, if you live in the US), so some similarities between the Calibra and the car maker's flagship are to be expected.
Under the hood of the Calibra, be it in coupe or cabrio form, you will find a 3.8l turbo unit, capable of developing 325 horsepower. Yes, it is the same engine as the one fitted into the Insignia OPC version. Smaller turbocharged units, offering a mix of power and economy, will also be there to be chosen by future customers.
To give the model an extra edge when competing with its targeted rivals, the BMW 3 Series and Audi A3, Opel's engineers will be throwing an all-wheel drive system onto the market, to go with the power plant.
More details about the revival of the Calibra will surface over time, even if an official presentation date is still some good months, if not years away.
