With the Moscow International Motor Show getting ready to kick off later this month, Opel seems to have a trick up its sleeve. A mysterious car draped in a yellow sheet recently appeared on the social media sites for Opel of Russia, and aside from a Russian debut, there is no information about this car.
Using Google translate, the text associated with the picture on both Twitter and Facebook says: “The premiere of the Moscow Motor Show 2014: guess what show Opel?” What it doesn’t say is whether or not this is a production car or a new concept vehicle.

If this image shows the actual car that will be revealed, it does seem to give us a decent idea about the general shape of the car. The upright windshield and short roof would hint at the possibility of a new coupe or convertible model, and the athletic front fenders and rear haunches seem to indicate a sportier car.

These cues don’t look like any other concept vehicle Opel has introduced recently, so our best (and hopeful) bet could be a production version of the next-gen Opel Calibra based on a design inspired by the 2013 Opel Monza Concept. Our only suggestion of the Monza is front end with the narrow headlights and forward-jutting grille. More of a left-field guess, Opel could also be revealing its own version of the 2012 Chevrolet Code 130R Concept, which made its debut at the 2012 North American International Auto Show. We haven’t heard much about this design since 2012, but the lines seem to match up pretty well with this teaser.

Whatever it is, we’ll find out for sure on August 27th when the doors to the Moscow auto show open, so stay tuned.
