Opel has published another teaser of its 2016 Geneva-bound GT Concept.
The upcoming exhibit for Opel’s stand is presented as proof of the company’s reinvention. It all starts with a teaser video, published on YouTube today and showing Dr. Karl-Thomas Neumann, Opel’s CEO, opening a metaphoric door to the future and showing the audience what the German company plans to bring at this year’s Geneva Motor Show.

The new Opel GT Concept will probably be a coupe, and its design is set to inspire future production models from this brand. The press release came with a teaser image of the car’s exhaust.

As you can see in the adjacent picture, we are talking about a center-mounted dual exhaust. Between the two pipes, the viewer can see the GT logo.

Unlike other center-mounted exhausts, the one on the Opel GT concept is fitted inside the rear bumper, not underneath it.

Opel explained this is a design choice that takes us back to its “Experimental GT Concept,” shown at the 1965 Frankfurt Motor Show.

The GT Concept was eventually turned into a production vehicle that was called the Opel GT. The car featured signature flip headlights, a feature that was operated manually.

The new GT concept obviously won’t have any of that, but it does have another retro touch in the teaser. A careful look at the video below and you’ll spot a red front tire on the concept vehicle. That’s there on purpose and pays homage to the Opel motorcycle Motoclub 500, which appeared in 1928 with two red tires.

At the end of the teaser video, we see what seem to be the car’s taillights. These gave a light signature in the shape of two letters, GT. For now, we are not sure if that was just a smart visual effect or it’s meant to say something about the car’s taillights. Either way, we’ll all find out at the beginning of March.
