Opel Range Gets Greener for 2011

For the Model Year 2011 product range, German automaker producer Opel has made several improvements in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions, including the introduction of the Start/Stop technology and the Insignia line-up now combining diesel power with Opel’s Adaptive 4x4 system.

Taken separately, the Agila range now features a 1.2-liter ecoFLEX gasoline engine, capable of developing 94hp, and which emits 116 g CO2 with Start/Stop technology and eats 47 mpg (5 l/100km).

The Start/Stop technology is offered as an option on the Corsa 1.3 CDTI with 75 hp, as well as on the Corsa Van. Also the Corsa OPC fitted with the 192hp 1.6 turbo engine has a 392 mpg (0.6 l/100km) reduction in fuel consumption equaling a 9.5 percent cut in CO2 emissions.

The second generation Meriva comes with three greener diesel engines. The new 1.3 CDTI ecoFLEX variant has 11.2 percent lower emissions (119 g/km CO2) than its predecessor. Also new are two more powerful versions of the 1.7 CDTI engine available with a 6-speed manual transmission, with an average combined fuel consumption of 45 mpg (5.2 l/100km).

The Astra hatchback sees the addition of an 120hp variant of the 1.4-liter turbo engine, equipped with a six-speed manual gearbox, which eats 40 mpg (5.9 l/100km) and emits 138 g/km CO2. The 110hp and 125 hp versions of the 1.7 CDTI engine have a fuel consumption of 52 mpg (4.5 l/100km) and emit 119 g/km CO2.

The ecoFLEX Insignia models, which include the sedan, hatchback and Sports Tourer station wagon, have also undergone a series of technical improvements. With a 2.0 CDTI engine developing 130 hp or 160 hp, the latest Opel Insignia ecoFLEX sedan variants now sip just 48 mpg (4.9 l/100km) of fuel, while emitting 129 g/km CO2. For the Sports Tourer, the new figures are 46 mpg (5.1 l/100km) and 134 g/km.
