As a sign that things have started moving for Opel, the car maker announced this week positive sales numbers for the month of May, a month that has represented the seventh consecutive period of increase for the not long ago battered German automaker.
Since the beginning of the year and until the end of May, Opel sold 534,000 vehicles, gaining by the end of the fifth month a market share of 6.3 percent, up from the 5.8 percent it held in May of last year. Out of the 27 European markets it sells it products in, the car maker increased its market share in all but four.
Some of the most popular models, and at the same time those that have proven to bring customers to dealerships, are the Meriva and Astra Sports Tourer, each occupying the number one spot in their respective segment on more than one European market. For instance, in less than a year since its launch, the Meriva managed to reach a milestone in production: the 150,000 vehicle will roll off the assembly lines in Spain this week, a moment that will surely be announced by Opel at the time it takes place.
“Our sales numbers show a long-term, stable, upwards trend. And we are not only growing because of the improved economic environment, we are also continuously improving our market shares compared to our competitors. Only very few manufacturers have managed this in the past months. It shows that our new cars fully meet our customers’ demands and requirements,” said Alain Visser, Opel vice president for Sales, Marketing and Aftersales
