Opel OnStar Connectivity and Service Assistant Gets Detailed

From mid-June, the Opel OnStar suite will roll out in Europe. From the Adam city car to the Insignia, the personal connectivity and service assistant will be available for all new models. Furthermore, all OnStar services are free fof charge or the first 12 months.

“Opel is redefining luxury because from now on, every Opel driver will have his personal assistant available at the touch of a button. Wi-Fi will be available as well,” declared Opel chief marketing officer Tina Müller.

The adjacent videos demonstrate the OnStar Wi-Fi hotspot function and smartphone app. However, the Opel OnStar suite boasts many other features, including Vehicle Diagnostics, Destination Download, Roadside Assistance, Stolen Vehicle Assistance, Automatic Crash Response and 24h Emergency Call Service.

Opel OnStar functions can be summed up as follows:

- Automatic crash response (SOS) including 24-hour emergency service hotline and roadside assistance;
- Mobile Wi-Fi hotspot with high-speed data connection and for up to seven devices;
- Smartphone app for remote control, for example, remotely locking or unlocking the car;
- Stolen Vehicle Assistance Vehicle Diagnostics including monthly email with an update on the most important vehicle systems such as airbags or transmission;
- Destination download which allows an OnStar Advisor to transmit an alternative route, a restaurant or a specific address to the Opel in-car navigation system.

Opel will make the service available in 13 European countries from this summer: Belgium, Germany, France, the United Kingdom (Vauxhall cars), Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Austria, Poland, Portugal, Switzerland and Spain. According to the automaker, more countries will follow at a later stage.
