The alliance between General Motors, which when announced looked like the answer to both companies European problems, seems to be destabilizing even before we see the first fruits of their joint labour.
A recent report states that PSA Peugeot-Citroen confirmed earlier this week that the two were scaling back their alliance.
According to Autonews Europe, General Motors is now so confident they can turn Opel around that they will use their own architecture for the Opel/Vauxhall Corsa, although they were supposed to make subcompacts together with PSA.
This new Corsa would be built on a new small car platform called either Global Gamma or G2XX. What really troubles us is this new Corsa is slated for late 2018. That would mean the current model's architecture, which dates back from 2006, will continue to be used for 12 year. Could the facelift they are working on be classed as a new Corsa E series, much like the Corsa B and C were similar but classed as totally different models?
GM said on Wednesday that they would continue to develop Meriva and Zafira MPV replacements together with PSA and due for a 2017 launch.
