Opel GT X Experimental Is How Your Future Opel Will Look Like

It’s been a year since German carmaker Opel was taken over by French auto group PSA, and already things are looking up for a brand that struggled for years to emerge from GM’s dreadful legacy.

Fresh after the announcement of a 502 million Euros profit – not much for a carmaker, but a sign things are improving – Opel revealed on the first day of August that it will be completely changing the way in which its cars look in the coming years.

The restyled face of Opel car was shown on Wednesday in a teaser image and a video portraying a concept car Opel calls GT X Experimental. To be unveiled in full by the end of the year, the concept, says Opel, gives a first impression of "what the future holds and what Opel models will look like by the mid-2020s."

The front end of the new concept car marks a major departure from the looks the Germans have gotten us used to in decades of car manufacturing. The main feature of the front end remains the emblem, this time positioned in the center without being part of a horizontal bar.

Other elements that will change in future Opel models are the daytime running lights, which now are wing-shaped, and the addition of a center crease on the bonnet. Together with the cameras and sensors of the assistance systems, these elements will form a unique design element that in Opel’s view resembles the eye slot of a motorcycle helmet.

Because of this, future Opel models’ front end will be known in the industry as Vizor.

“The identity of our brand is our future,” said in a statement Opel CEO Michael Lohscheller.

“That is why I charged our design and engineering teams with visualising these values by means of a concept car. The Opel GT X Experimental, which will celebrate its world premiere before the end of the year, is the result.”

In the document attached below you can find the hows and whys of the new Vizor, as explained by Opel.
