Opel Grandland X Gets New Top of the Range 180 HP Gasoline Engine

The turbocharged direct injection gasoline engine has a displacement of 1.6-liters and is rated at 5.8-5.7 l/100 km and 132-130 g/km CO2 combined, thus being compliant with the future European Euro 6d-TEMP emissions standard.

The new powerplant will push the SUV forward with the power of a 180 horsepower troop at 5,500 rpm. Torque is rated at 250 Nm at 1,750 rpm, while zero to 100 km/h acceleration (62 mph) is achieved in 8 seconds. The engine tops at 222 km/h (138 mph).

Opel will be offering the new engine only for the Ultimate trim of the Grandland X that comes, among other things, equipped with 19-inch alloy wheels,  leather interior, and the Denon premium sound system.

The Grandland X is one of the models that have revived the German brand since it escaped the ill-fated ownership of GM and was taken over by the group that encompasses Peugeot and Citroen. It was introduced in April 2017 as the replacement for the Antara.

The model shares its platform, the PSA-owned EMP2, with the Peugeot 3008. This German car with French underpinnings sold 8,900 units last year, but that was only because it was its first, limited attack on the booming SUV market.

2018 took off with the bang for the nameplate, the eight months that have passed since the start of the year accounting for nearly 48,000 Grandlands being sold to new owners.

In Europe, the model sells from a little over 30,000 euros for the entry-level trim. Opel did not say how much more the new engine will add to the cost of the car.

In the document attached below, you will find all the details on the new engine, as released by Opel.
