Corsa F is the internal designation of the fifth series since the 1980s, and as opposed to when Opel was under the control of General Motors, the newcomer has been developed with the know-how, platform technology, engine options, and an all-electric drivetrain from Groupe PSA.

Opel had originally planned to introduce the Corsa F in the autumn of 2017, but following the French takeover, the plan was shelved and the project was back to the drawing board. This change of fate for the German automaker has also brought forward the CMP vehicle architecture, whose e-CMP version for electric vehicles serves as the basis for the Corsa-e Rally.

A rally-focused development of the Corsa-e hatchback, the electric racing car retains the front-mounted electric motor and battery. In pretty much every other area, the engineers changed the recipe in the name of the ADAC Opel e-Rally Cup, the world’s first rally brand cup for EVs.

Serving as a replacement for the Adam R2, the Corsa-e Rally promises 136 PS (134 horsepower) and 260 Nm (191 pound-feet) of torque from a front-mounted electric motor. The pricing in Germany will start at “significantly less than €50,000 (net)” according to the Rüsselsheim-based brand.

Opel didn’t forget to cater to the needs of more traditional customers in the subcompact segment, those who aren’t yet prepared to make the switch from internal combustion to all-electric drive. A few examples of the regular model were showcased to exhibit the versatility of the platform, and the Corsa boasts a selection of three- and four-cylinder powerplants.

The list kicks off with a 1.2-liter relying on natural aspiration, continues with two versions of the 1.2 turbo, and tops with the 1.5-liter BlueHDi S&S as far as displacement is concerned. While the Corsa-e might be the most powerful of the whole lot, the diesel-engined Corsa is the most frugal.

A giveaway of Groupe PSA involvement in the Corsa F is the gear lever for the eight-speed automatic transmission, which is similar in design to what you might find in the Peugeot 208. If you’d like to place an order, the fifth gen will set you back €13,990 as opposed to €14,055 for the previous model with five doors. The Corsa-e is a bit pricier at €29,900 before the government incentive for purchasing a plug-in vehicle.
