Introduced last year, the Mokka already has over 100,000 orders from across Europe, making it very important for the Korean economy. But tensions with North Korea are causing General Motors to rethink its strategy in the area and as a result production of the Cruze sedan will be moved to Europe, with other models likely to follow.
According to a report from German business daily Handelsblatt, production of the Mokka could be moved from South Korea to Spain. The reason stated is not political concern, but unexpectedly high demand in Europe, which as we said earlier has ordered over 100,000 units already.
The Opel plant in Zaragoza, Spain, is expected to take over production of the Mokka. This factory makes the Corsa, Combo and Meriva and has been running at a loss due to overcapacity.
