As promised recently, German carmaker Opel announced yesterday the addition of another fuel-saving feature for two of its models. The Start/Stop technology, which will expand to encompass other Opel models in the future (Astra 1.3 CDTI being the next model to get it), will be first used on the Corsa 1.3 CDTI (55 kW/75 hp) and Agila 1.2 l (69 kW/94 hp) models.
The addition of this new features means, in Agila's case, that medium fuel consumption will be brought down to 5.0l/100 km (47 mpg), a figure 2.5 percent lower than on the model without Start/Stop. Emission levels will also be decreased to 116g of CO2/km (9 percent down).
Corsa's new figures are 4.0 l/100 km (58 mpg) in combined cycle and 105g of CO2/km (10.6 percent less CO2 than the Corsa without Start/Stop).
But that's not all. Aside for Start/Stop, Opel will offer the two models with a combination of efficiency technologies combined in the so called ecoFLEX Technology Package.
For the Corsa, the ecoFLEX Technology Package includes the aforementioned Start/Stop, absorbent glass mat battery, battery management with battery sensor, electric power management, an additional water pump and a switch-off button for the Start/Stop.
For the Agila, the package includes the Start/Stop, enhanced battery, battery management with battery sensor and a switch-off button.
The new features do, however, come at a cost. Opel will add EUR350 on the price for the Corsa and EUR300 on the price for the Agila.
