Opel Celebrates 25 Years Since the Vectra was Launched

German automaker Opel celebrates 25 years since the Vectra mid-size sedan was introduced. Designed to replace the successful Ascona, the Vectra was launched in 1988 and became the first Opel model that offered all-wheel drive.
The first-generation Vectra sold no less than 2.5 million examples in Europe until 1995, when the second-generation version kicked in. The figure was quite impressive, given that the Ascona sold around 3.9 million units during its 18 year production run.

The Vectra B was on sale for eight years, being replace in 2002 by the third-generation Vectra C, which was also marketed, besides the traditional Vauxhall version, under Chevrolet and Holden badges in Mexico, Chile and Australia respectively.

Following Opel’s tradition, the Vectra name was dropped when the third-generation was discontinued in 2008, being replaced by the Opel Insignia. Check out the press release below for more info on the Opel Vectra A.
