After announcing the presence of the 2011 Opel Astra Sports Tourer at the Paris Auto Show in October, German manufacturer Opel released today the pricing for the wagon version of the reinterpreted Astra.
The model will retail starting later this year from EUR18,000, with orders being accepted as of now. The entry level Sports Tourer is the 1.4 ecoFLEX 100 hp. As a bonus, the model received the lowest insurance rating of all the compact class wagons evaluated by the Gesamtverband der Deutschen Versicherungswirtschaft (GDV) in Germany.
The Sports Tourer will be available with a choice of eight diesel and gasoline engines, with outputs ranging in between 95 and 180 hp. Most of the units will be imported from the hatchback sibling, but Opel's station wagon will get one new unit, as well as a new engine-transmission combination.
The new unit is 1.4 turbo which develops 120 hp and is paired with a six-speed manual transmission. The Astra lineup will also be available with a start/stop technology, to be used on the 1.3l CDTI ecoFLEX engine.
The new Sports Tourer comes equipped with AFL+ adaptive forward lighting, Opel Eye front view camera system and the safety systems already featured on the hatchback Astra.
One of the biggest novelties for the model is the FlexFold Rear Seat system, a first in its segment, which allows the rear seats to fold 60/40. By doing so, cargo load length is increased to 1835 mm, 28 mm more than in the current Astra wagon. The loading volume is in between 500 and 1550 liters, while Opel also plans to add a new FlexFix system for carrying bikes.
