Opel Astra GTC Commercial: Cries Out for Asphalt

When it comes to affordable, practical and very exciting ways of traveling, we still think that well built warm-hatch are better and easier to live with every day than cheap coupes. There are a lot of them right now, since the market boomed a couple of years back.
Most are just squishy versions of five-door hatchbacks. Opel thinks it’s found the answer to the Scirocco with the new Astra GTC, based on the latest version of the car, the J. As far as we know, this is the first actual commercial to be seen for the car that arrives in German showrooms on January 14th, 2012.

Opel has recently announced that it will introduce two 1.7 CDTI diesel units for the Astra GTC. The first produces 110 hp and 280 Nm of torque, emitting 119 grams of CO2 per km and returning a fuel efficiency of 4.5 liters per 100 km, while the latter offers 130 hp and a peak torque of 300 Nm. In January next year, the Astra 1.4-liter turbocharged petrol and 2.0-lite CDTI diesel engines will become available with a six-speed automatic gearbox.

He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
