The Opel Amera is racking up the marketing victories. After it was named 2012 Car of the Year in earlier this month, it now added some light racing credentials.
The plug-in hybrid convincingly won the 2012 Monte Carlo Rally in the electric and alternative propulsion category. A total of seven Amperas were entered in the race, and four finished in the first ten.
And it wasn’t exactly a walkover event either, as 130 cars from 30 manufacturers were entered, including the Fluence Z.E., the Tesla Roadster and Peugeot iOn.
"The Ampera’s success in this versatility contest under very challenging conditions proves its impressive balance between durability and fuel efficiency," said Opel’s Director E-mobility, Enno Fuchs. "This underscores our leadership role in the field of alternative propulsion."
We’ll remind you that the Ampera’s powertrain comprises of a 16 kWh lithium ion battery and a 150 hp electric motor. This combo provides an all-electric range of about 50 miles (80 km), which is boosted by a petrol range extender.
