Opel Adam S: 150 HP Pocket Rocket Revealed ahead of Paris

As if taking away some of the Fiat 500's market share wasn't bad enough, Opel's little posh car, the Adam, is now ready to battle the Abarth with a very impressive barrage of custom parts and a surprise under the bonnet.

Say hello to the Opel Adam S. It's not quite a full OPC model, but then who wants hard suspension nowadays?! Revealed today ahead of its Paris Motor Show debut, this hot hatch is powered by a 1.4-liter turbo motor pushing out 150 hp and 220 Nm of torque.

1.4-liter engines have been around in the Adam range for quite some time now, but the new turbocharged model produces 50 percent more horsepower and 70 percent more torque than its naturally-aspirated 1.4. The Adam S is not as fast as a Porsche, but with 0 to 100 km/h taking 8.5 seconds, there's plenty of fun to be had here.

Still, it's worth noting that despite having only 135 hp, the regular Fiat 500 Abarth needs only 8 seconds to reach the benchmark speed. Yet we wouldn't but the Abarth, not only because it's expensive, but also because most people associate it with a pretentious type of person, while the Adam S is something nobody has ever seen before, an Opel for the new age.

Opel's go-fast division OPC placed its stamp of approval over a new performance braking system installed on this car. Framing those red brake calipers are either standard 17-inch wheels or optional 18-inch ones covered in 225/35 R 18 tires. The Adam S also boasts a subtle but strong body kit, lowered suspension and a host of color options. A total of ten body paint choices and four further roof combinations are available with the ‚Red ¼n‘ Roll‘ roof design reserved exclusively for ADAM S customers.

A strong competitor in the connectivity segment, the Adam S offers a standard 7-inch IntelliLink system that's compatible with both Apple and Android smartphones. Prices won't be available until the on-sale debut in December, though we expect them to sit in the region of €18,000 in Germany.
