In 2002, BMW launched one new brand with one new model, the reinvention of the MINI. The car proved just how popular a small car with premium feel and retro looks can be.
Since then, Citroen's DS3 and Fiat 500 took big chunks out of MINI's share with their own retro styling. Opel saw that the only way to make a city car of its own was to learn from its rivals but offer modern styling.

The Opel Adam is fashionable and individual. But MINI never took things lying down and launched crossovers and coupes and convertibles to cater to the premium market as well. Opel needs to do the same now, as a drop-top Adam is on the way and could be joined by a rough and ready model as well.

This was previewed for the first time by a concept shown in Geneva yesterday. The jacked up Adam has been dubbed "Rocks" and what it lacks in actual rock-climbing ability, it makes up for in in character. The Adam Rocks has beefy wheel arches and bumper protectors just like a VW Cross Polo. The concept takes things even further with a beige interior and wood steering wheel and gearshift lever trim.

Mihnea's favorite cars have already been built, the so-called modern classics from the '80s and '90s. He also loves local car culture from all over the world, so don't be surprised to see him getting excited about weird Japanese imports, low-rider VWs out of Germany, replicas from Russia or LS swaps down in Florida.
