First TV Ad for Opel Adam Proves It Is Aimed at Hipsters

The Opel Adam is the German manufacturer’s attempt at making a dent in the sales figures of cars such as the MINI, Citroen DS3 and the Fiat 500.
Opel is trying desperately hard to make the car seem cool, and trendy, and while we say that their campaign to popularize the car has been a bit over the top and immature, it seems that they may have actually somehow got the message, as the first TV ad for the car says exactly the same things they`ve said so far, but in a more serious and grown-up tone.

The ad emphasizes the multitude of personalization options available for the car and the it is proof that this car is clearly aimed at hipsters, who put personalization and style over driving fun, handling and practicality. With ads like these they are undoubtedly drawing their target audience closer, yet they are also distancing themselves from people who may have just wanted an Opel/Vauxhall-badged city car, without it being overly-flashy or too expensive.

Only time will tell if Opel’s gamble with the Adam pays off, but judging by the mediocre reviews it has received so far, we say it will still not be a real match for the three cars mentioned in the first paragraph. Nevertheless, it is an interesting car, which will add a bit of style and color to the crowded city centers of Europe.
