OnStar Honors the Voices: Its Advisers

Americans using the OnStar services have come accustomed to hearing a usually friendly voice trying to solve whatever problem they might have. The company calls these voices advisers, the 2,000 men and women who take about 100,000 calls a day and tend to the needs of some 6 million subscribers.

As part of the National Customer Service Week, Onstar thought to mention them in passing, as well as release several numbers which make up the work the advisers have done over the years. According to OnStar, since the inception of the service 15 years ago, 4.8 million doors have been unlocked, 61 million Turn-by-Turn Navigation routes and 148,000 crashes have been responded to.

And that's only the tip of the iceberg. Perhaps the most useful feature offered by OnStar, the Stolen Vehicles recovery system, managed to put 51,000 back in the hands of their rightful owners. About 2.4 million people who had car trouble were also assisted by one of OnStar's advisers.

Pretty much just like emergency services operators, OnStar advisers stay on the phone during an emergency with the caller, providing at the same time crash details to emergency responders.

“Every day is a unique and memorable experience,” said OnStar Navigation Adviser Vicky Lenke. “Whether I am helping someone find the nearest gas station or setting up a family’s summer trip to Disney World – it’s always satisfying knowing that you could help them in some small way.”

OnStar was created in 1995 as one of the first telematics companies in the US. Owned by GM, the company has filed over the years 192 patents for new technologies.
