OnStar Brings Mobile App to China

Having found in China a pool of potential customers more than happy to embrace the offer, OnStar is getting ready to treat both those who have already chosen OnStar as a telematics solution provider and those who haven't done that yet, by announcing the introduction of the Mobile App. {ad]

"Giving our customers control of their vehicles with smart phone application technology is a key advantage of OnStar's in-vehicle connectivity," said Jon Hyde, general manager of Shanghai OnStar Telematics. “This technology empowers drivers to have control over important vehicle information from anywhere they happen to be.”

The app, as you know, is the system through which OnStar subscribers will be able to gain access to features like remote start, horn and lights and door lock/unlock directly from their smartphones. In addition to that, all customers will be able to receive relevant information about their vehicle (ranging from diagnostic information like fuel level and remaining oil life to up-to-date status reports on their vehicles.

In the US and Canada, the app works on OnStar systems that equip most of the cars launched as part of the 2011 model year, as some of the ones that are part of the 2010 model year. In China, OnStar hasn't yet detailed the cars the app will cover.

“OnStar is continuously raising the bar in telematics and safety leadership as well as applying the newest and best technology for our customers in China,” added Hyde. “It is our vision to be the single most-admired telematics player with a clear focus on providing subscribers safety, security and peace-of-mind services.”
