Onewheel's name kind of speaks for this amazing invention, but while some might think about an unicycle or similar contraption, here's Palo Alto-based Future Motion to shake your foundations: it's a one-wheel skateboard! Or snowboard, or surfboard, or even back to the Future hoverboard. Either way, this is awesome!
Onewheel combines the gyroscope technology in smartphones, with accelerometers and direct drive 500W hub motors into a gadget which looks intriguing and which most likely feels like a million bucks.

The chunky wheel protrudes through the board which contains the 48V LiFePO4 battery and the self-balancing electronics, while the wheel design also absorbs ground unevenness and helps carving a smooth trajectory.

Operation is extremely intuitive and getting used to the Onewheel only takes minutes: leaning forward accelerates, while leaning back brakes or reverses. Regenerative brakes are also returning some juice into the battery upon coming to a halt.

Onewheel comes with a 12 mph (20 km/h) top speed and needs 1-2 hours for a full charge, and only 20 minutes with the optional fast charger. Range is 4-6 miles (6-9 km), depending on riding style and terrain.

With a weight of 25 lb (11 kg), Onewheel's Kickstarter projects is closing in to being fully funded, with the first deliveries expected in September. A mudguard could do, also.
