The scenes you are about to watch in the video after the jump have been recorded in Florida by a YouTube user going by the name Roni G. His account does not indicate what happened before the incident, so we will refrain from passing judgment as to what led to this.
Even so, the reactions of the Fusion driver are inexcusable. There is no way someone could justify such actions taken against a rider. Honestly, there are two things that surprised us in this whole affair.
The first one is, of course, the driver's mindlessness. We're pretty sure that he could even do some time for his driving style, putting the rider and other motorists in danger and deliberately trying to ram him down.
Regardless of what the rider may have done before this recording chunk starts, we fail to see such a threat from the man as to justify trying to kill or injure him in this way. We know that in certain cases, vehicle operators might be forced to use the vehicles as weapons if they fear for their life... but this is not such an occasion.
On the other hand, riding a sport bike and not being able to lose a casual passenger car is, again, unacceptable. With the acceleration and agility of a sportbike, be it a 600cc one, a rider should not have too much of a trouble losing a Ford Fusion.
Still, this fellow was unable to escape his pursuer and put himself in unnecessary danger riding on the wrong side of the road, between the sidewalk and incoming cars. Frankly, we were expecting to see a pretty nasty head-on collision, but we've been spared such gruesome scenes.
Obviously, riding in a straight line on the highway and not even flat-out was an unexpected boon for the (mad) driver. Going off the highway and using the excellent cornering capabilities of the bike and its far superior acceleration to clear corners would have made short work of the whole business.
Or maybe even kicking the phone from the driver's hand and THEN taking to the lateral streets...
