Although winter has come in many parts of the world, Lamborghini has decided to solve the mystery of Squadra Corse’s teaser of a new vehicle that looked mean, roofless, and totally windowless. It’s the company’s latest bespoke effort in the same vein as the SC18 Alston, rather than just the speedster counterpart of the track only Essenza SCV12.
Ferrari Monza SP, McLaren Elva, or Aston Martin V12 Speedster owners can breathe a sigh of relief – Lamborghini is not joining the niche with its own limited-series roofless and windowless reinterpretation of the Aventador platform.
Instead, it has decided to outsmart them in terms of exclusivity, as the new Lamborghini Squadra Corse SC20 is a unique commission by a wealthy client who wanted the Lamborghini Centro Stile touches reinterpreted in a tailored package.
Sure, it’s not the first time we have seen the Aventador lose its top parts, but this time around, with Squadra Corse’s involvement, we’re also getting a mélange of other influences. “Chief sources of inspiration were the Diablo VT Roadster, Aventador J, Veneno Roadster and Concept S, and the result is a dramatic combination of creativity and racing attitude,” explains Mitja Borkert, the head honcho of the Centro Stile.
We reckon there’s also a big chunk of Essenza SCV12 in there, which the company says it contributed with the solutions used for the sculpted body sides. There’s input from the smaller Huracán GT3 EVO up front as well, while the carbon fiber-bodied rear is dominated by the massive CF wing that can sit in any of three positions: “Low, Medium and High Load.”
Exclusive details requested by the customer – who was naturally involved with the project from the initial sketches created by the styling team – include the Bianco Fu (white) base for the exterior, while the Blu Cepheus (blue) livery is present inside. There, it alternates with Nero Cosmus (black) and Bianco Leda (white) touches.
Carbon fiber is used everywhere, including the shells of the Alcantara- and leather-dressed seats. Aluminum makes its presence felt through the machined door handles, while the air vents are 3D-printed.
With the 6.5-liter V12 taken to 770 PS (759 hp) and 720 Nm (531 lb-ft), the SC20 is down on power compared to Squadra Corse’s Essenza SCV12, though it does match the Aventador SVJ Roadster. As such, although performance details have not been revealed, we can imagine it will also hit 62 mph in less than three seconds and reach up to around 350 kph (217 mph).
