One-Off BMW R1200 R, Auctioned for Charity

In 1949, BMW was starting motorcycle production at its Berlin plant, with more than 1.9 million machines coming off the assembly line to date. While celebrating its 40th anniversary of production at the Berlin-Spandau plant, BMW will also be auctioning an exclusive motorcycle on eBay in order to support the children's rights organization "Save the Children".

The one-off motorcycle is, in fact, a 80 kW (109 hp) R1200 R “40 years of Berlin,” specially built for the occasion, fitted with a flat twin “boxer” engine, which is much more efficient compared to the one fitted on the serial production model.

Of the bikes’ distinctive features, a chrome exhaust system, ABS, white direction indicators, heated grips, on-board computer, low comfort seat bench and the Sport windshield, are just a few to be mentioned.

Finished in Mojave brown with white lines, the bike also features chrome cylinder head covers and rear mirror and cover caps for the Telelever and fork bridge, classic wire spoke wheels, as well as classic rear frame and headlamp casing in silver finish.

The BMW R1200 R “40 Years of Berlin” will be exhibited from November 10 to 15, 2009, at the international motorcycle trade fair EICMA in Milan. The auction on eBay starts immediately after the EICMA show ends on November 25, 2009.

“Supporting young people through educational activities has been part of our corporate culture for many years," says Hendrik von Kuenheim, Director of Motorcycles in the BMW Group. “It gives us great pleasure to be able to make a small contribution to a social cause in Berlin and its surrounding area by auctioning this unique model.”
