One-of-a-Kind Audi A3 e-Tron by Jean Paul Gaultier Fetches $111,500 at Auction

When you have Charlize Theron and Sean Penn hanging out at a fundraiser ball you know it’s a big deal. After all, Life Ball is the largest charity event in Europe supporting people with HIV or AIDS. However, this piece is not about famous actors (that we love seeing together); it’s about fashion and charity. Namely, it’s about Jean Paul Gaultier creating a one-of-a-kind Audi that sold for serious cash the other day.

We know close to zero about fashion designers, but judging by Wikipedia’s records on the 63-year-old French fashion guru, the former Hermes creative director has quite an interesting story. Apparently, we’re looking at a passionate person who has always gone after what desired most. In fact, he never received formal training as a designer, he merely sent sketches to famous couture stylists at an early age. Pierre Cardin was impressed by his talent and hired him as an assistant in 1970.

It’s good to see that after all these years, Gaultier remains as creative as he was back then. As we mentioned, we know little to none about fashion design, but we can tell you this: the Audi in question is a head turner.

The blue and white stripes are a signature style of the French designer, who preferred to wear blue and white striped t-shirts and spiky blond hair at the charity event the other week. The blazing flames are there to highlight the Audi A3 e-Tron power, without ignoring all the advantages that come with driving a plug-in hybrid.

We always like when famous people encourage the eco-conscious trend, especially that they regularly have so many followers. Moreover, the starting price of a new Audi A3 e-tron plug-in hybrid in Europe is 37,000 euros ($41,000). Since the one-of-a-kind vehicle sold for 100,000 euros ($111,500), it’s safe to say the celebrity factor helped.
