Two lessons for this unlucky rider this day, one about gear and one about what to expect when riding on a forest road.
First of all, one should always "expect the unexpected" when riding on a road which passes through the middle of a forest. Wild animals are there, even though we can seldom see them, and they might become startled by the sound of the bikes.
It's hard to predict which way they'll run when they get scared, but every now and then, it's going to be in front of the bike.
On the other hand, leaving for a longer ride around the city without a bike jacket means taking unnecessary risks. In case of a spill, it's the rider's skin which takes full damage, as road rash is definitely not a pleasant thing.
In case it's too hot for leathers, a summer cordura jacket could make a very big difference.
