Once You Go EV, You Never Go Back

Survey reveals EV drivers would never switch back to ICE 1 photo

I know, it doesn’t rhyme as well as the other thing, but the reality remains: once someone experienced the thrills of driving an electric vehicle, there’s no going back to ICE-powered machines.
At least this is the conclusion of a study conducted by Zap-Map, a UK-based charging points mapping service. The group carried out the survey in November on more than 2,000 people, and the results are interesting, to say the least.

Asked if they would ever consider trading in their current EV or PHEV for a regular-combustion vehicle, a whopping 91 percent of those questioned said no. Of the remaining people, just one percent answered yes, while the rest were still undecided, thus enforcing the belief the new technology is here to stay.

“Our latest poll shows the strong and enduring impact of switching to a clean car. The evidence in favour of electric vehicles grows more compelling with each one of our surveys, even in a year as disruptive as 2020,” said in a statement Melanie Shufflebotham, Co-Founder of Zap-Map.

“The challenge for the automotive industry is to take advantage of the opportunities that EVs present, not only in terms of the rapidly expanding range, but also ensuring that sales staff are knowledgeable enough to present the benefits to their customers.”

As for the electric cars people love to drive and are most satisfied with, the recently arrived Volkswagen ID.3 tops the charts, followed by the Kia Niro Plug-in Hybrid, and BMW's 3 Series. For the record, the Tesla Model 3 only comes in fourth.

What’s interesting is that most of those who took part in the poll only purchased their current electron-powered vehicle this year (52 percent), and another 26 percent in 2019. That’s because these past two years have seen a flood of such machines hitting the market; curiously enough, those included in the survey said they owned EVs and PHEV before their current daily drivers as well.
